An elevated threat of severe thunderstorms remains in place across the region this evening and tonight, especially for western and northern areas. All modes of severe weather are possible area-wide.

New This Morning:

We have adjusted the timing earlier, with the severe weather window now beginning around 6 PM as some models show storms arriving sooner than previously expected.

Primary Threat: Damaging winds

Also Possible: Brief spin-up tornadoes and small hail

The highest tornado threat appears to be near the KY/VA line and the VA/WV border. A strong tornado cannot be completely ruled out for locations very close to the VA/WV border, particularly in the darker green area shown on the tornado risk map.

Approximate Timing

• Western counties: 6 PM - 10 PM

• Tri-Cities: 8 PM - 12 AM

• Eastern areas: 10 PM – 1 AM

Be Prepared:

It is crucial to have multiple ways to receive severe weather warnings this evening and tonight.

Remember the difference:

• Watch: Conditions are favorable for severe weather

• Warning: Severe weather is occurring or about to occur

We will be LIVE during severe weather as needed.

After the Front Passes:

Some brief snow showers are possible in the mountains and Southwest Virginia, with flurries or light snow showers possible around parts of the Tri-Cities overnight.

Any accumulation would be very light and mainly on grassy surfaces. A dusting to locally up to half an inch cannot be ruled out in the mountains, but it would melt quickly.

Stay with FirstWARN Tri-Cities for the latest updates.
