A significant winter storm is on tap for Saturday and Sunday, with significant ice accumulations possible across the region.

IMPORTANT:

Freezing rain and ice accumulation appear to be the primary impacts from this storm. While some snow is expected, ice buildup is the main concern and could lead to widespread power outages and dangerous travel conditions.

Timeline & Impacts:

Precipitation is expected to begin as snow Saturday morning into mid-day

A transition to sleet Saturday evening

Then changing to freezing rain Saturday evening through Saturday night into Sunday morning

This period could bring very high impacts across the region

There is a possibility that temperatures rise slightly above freezing for a time Sunday, allowing for plain rain, before snow returns on the backside of the system.

The best chance for higher snowfall totals will be farther north, where it will take longer for warm air aloft to reach the area.

🚨 Power outage potential is HIGH with this system. Make sure you have essential supplies ready, especially if the ice forecast continues to strengthen.

We will continue fine-tuning the forecast, and additional changes are possible. Please keep checking back for updates as we refine timing and impacts. Stay weather alert.
