High Impact Winter Storm Will Impact the Area Friday into Saturday

A high impact winter storm will move into the area Friday from late morning through early afternoon and continue until Saturday morning. Winter Storm Warnings are in effect for most areas with Winter Weather Advisories for Smyth and Tazewell Counties. No matter which alert you are in, significant travel issues are possible for the Friday evening and Saturday morning commute. 3-6 inches are likely for many areas expect the foothills along the East Tennessee mountains where either a break in the precipitation could occur or some kind of mixing with sleet due to downsloping winds. The highest peaks along the KY/ VA line and along the TN/NC border could see close to 8 inches of snow. Not much melting will occur Saturday so conditions will remain hazardous throughout the day. It is advised if possible to be off the roads by early afternoon on Friday and all public schools in our area has closed schools for Friday due to this impending storm. This is likely our final forecast of this event, unless when we reevaluate early tomorrow morning we see that an update is needed. We are going to make another post about questions within minutes of this one being posted so please ask questions under that post.
