A light snowfall is likely Friday afternoon through Friday night across the region. Hazardous road conditions are possible for the Friday evening and Saturday morning commute, especially east of the Tri-Cities.

Precipitation will move into the area late Friday morning and continue through Friday evening. Temperatures should be cold enough for mostly snow, though areas west of the Tri-Cities, including Greeneville, Rogersville, and Sneedville, may start as rain before switching to snow.

In the Tri-Cities metro, precipitation (mainly snow, though a brief mix is possible) is expected to begin between 12 PM and 4 PM. Snow becomes more scattered after sunset, but snow squalls are possible, which could lead to briefly heavy snow and reduced visibility.

Winter Weather Advisories are in effect for portions of Eastern Kentucky, most of Southwest Virginia, and the mountains of East Tennessee.

With how cold it has been, it won’t take much snow to cause major road issues, as we saw last night and this morning. Most snow showers should be out of the area before we wake up Saturday morning.

Stay tuned for updates as we continue to monitor conditions.
