The weather pattern has been active over the past couple days and that will continue with risk for strong to severe storms both Wednesday and Thursday. Just like the past couple days thunderstorm complex’s known as Mesoscale Convective Systems (MCS) will make their way from NW to SE through the region.
Wednesday will start out with some scattered showers and storms especially SW of the Tri-Cities (70% chance) these should be non severe and will have some heavy rain, thunder, lightning, and maybe gusty winds up to 40 MPH. We will clear out for a good bit of the afternoon with either a line of thunderstorms (MCS) or just scattered strong storms moving through Wednesday late evening into the early overnight hours from 6 PM - 12 AM. Those storms could be severe with damaging winds, very heavy rain that could lead to flooding, small hail, lightning, and a quick spin-up tornado cannot be totally ruled out along the leading edge. Not all models are on board with this solution so we will give about a 60% chance of these storms during this time. The SPC could upgrade part of the area to a level 2 risk for Wednesday evening so make sure to check back for updates.
Thursday the SPC has also put the region in a level 1/5 risk of severe weather for the threat of damaging wind gust across the region. There will be a 40% chance of scattered non-severe showers and storms in the morning then a 50% chance of scattered afternoon and evening storms between 4 PM and 10 PM. These storms could have damaging winds, heavy rain with localized flooding, small hail, and lightning with them. The tornado threat with this round would be near zero.
Highs will be in the upper 80’s and low 90’s from Thursday through the weekend. There will be scattered thunderstorms around at times this weekend but the severe threat does look pretty low with that activity. Stay tuned to FirstWARN Tri-Cities for the latest.
