Two rounds of strong to severe storms are now looking likely for Friday through Saturday morning. The first round of storms will likely impact the region between 9 AM and 2 PM with round 2 between 9 PM Friday and 6 AM Saturday. Below I will detail the threats with each round.
Round one 9 AM - 2 PM Friday - This round of storms will NOT impact everyone in the viewing area, many could stay dry most of the day Friday, but high resolution model data does indicate that strong storms, possibly supercell thunderstorms, will impacts the region late morning through early afternoon. The main threats with this round will be damaging winds and large hail but a brief tornado cannot be totally ruled out. We will have coverage as needed for this round.
Between 2 and 9 PM - Many areas will be dry and rapid airmass destabilization will occur as we will see a mix of sun and clouds. I cannot rule out a rouge thunderstorm during this timeframe, after 5 PM, in SEKY and far northern SWVA and IF that occurs it could be severe with all severe modes possible but the threat of that occurring is low. IF these storms form and prompt warnings, our team will be LIVE with coverage.
Round Two 9 PM Friday - 6 AM Saturday - This is our main and highest severe weather threat. A complex of storms will move into our KY counties likely around 11 PM - midnight and move SE across the area. The main threat with this round is that of damaging straight line winds, with some wind gust possibly approaching 75 MPH especially near the KY/VA line, large hail and a few brief tornadoes are also possible. This storm line should be out of the region by 6 AM Saturday morning ending our severe thunderstorm threat. We will be LIVE during all severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings in our viewing area during this round of storms.
