Saturday and Sunday remain a FirstWARN Tri-Cities Weather Alert Day as accumulating snowfall and possible freezing rain are likely across the region.
Our team has spent the entire day reviewing the latest forecast data, and the message remains the same, a significant winter storm is likely from early Saturday through Sunday.
After reviewing new data today, we do see an increased risk of a period of freezing rain, especially across Northeast Tennessee and Western North Carolina. This could lower snow totals in some areas but also lead to ice accumulation, which would increase the risk of power outages. This also could change depending on the track of the low so future forecast updates are key.
Hazardous travel is likely area-wide throughout the event.
We plan to release our FirstCALL snowfall totals tomorrow evening. Another forecast update will be issued tomorrow morning, followed by the snowfall totals update tomorrow evening.
Please remember, we are still 4–5 days out, so precipitation type, timing, and amounts can and will change. Be sure to keep checking back for updates as we continue to refine the forecast. Stay weather alert.
