Starting Sunday morning snow will start falling in our western counties around sunrise and push east into the Tri-Cities between 9 AM and noon. Snowfall in the Tri-Cities should start with a band of snow then scattered snow showers into the early overnight hours. Many areas will see 1-2 inches across the metro some lesser amounts in southwestern areas. Northern SWVA will see 2-4 inches while the TN/NC mountains will see 3-6 inches with amounts up to 8 inches on the highest peaks. Winter Storm Warnings or Winter Weather Advisories have been issued for our entire viewing area. Travel impacts are likely as temperatures quickly drop below freezing around late morning and midday any moisture on roadways will freeze into ice and cause very hazardous road conditions. Roads will not be pretreated due to rainfall before the snow and freeze. Very cold temperatures will follow as wind chills Monday morning could be near or below zero in the valleys and possibly as low as -15 in the mountains. Stay with FirstWARN Tri-Cities for updates.
