A significant winter storm remains LIKELY from Saturday midday through early Monday afternoon.

The National Weather Service has just issued Winter Storm Warnings, Ice Storm Warnings, and Winter Weather Advisories for parts of the area. No matter if you are in a warning or an advisory impacts remain close to the same.

Ice accumulations are becoming a VERY HIGH threat, with an ice storm possible, especially in parts of the region. Hazardous travel, scattered power outages, and possible downed trees are likely — especially Saturday night.

What to expect:

Saturday (Noon–4 PM): Precipitation begins as snow for everyone

Saturday evening: Transition to sleet, then freezing rain from south to north

By midnight Saturday night: Most of the area likely seeing freezing rain, with ice storm conditions possible

Sunday: A brief period of cold rain, especially across Northeast Tennessee

Sunday evening into Monday: Snow returns on the backside of the system

Snowfall:

Tri-Cities: Limited totals, generally 1–3 inches (front and back end)

Higher totals farther north, where areas remain all snow longer

Ice Accumulation:

0.20" to 0.50" of ice becoming increasingly likely

Greater than 0.50" possible in southeastern portions of the viewing area

These amounts could lead to significant travel issues and power outages

The forecast will continue to be refined over the next 24 hours as we get closer to the event. Now is the time to prepare and continue checking back for updates from FirstWARN Tri-Cities.
